Powder metallurgy is one of the process routes in our metal component work. In conventional press-and-sinter PM, metal powder is pressed to shape in a die and then sintered, a practical route for gears, bushes, cams and similar parts ordered in volume.
What we cover
- Route selection – reviewing powder metallurgy against machining, casting and metal injection molding at the quotation stage
- Pressed and sintered parts – to drawing
- Secondary operations – machining, deburring, heat treatment and finishing where required
- Assembly – with other metal and plastic components
Why it matters
Parts can come out of the die close to final shape, so little material is wasted and machining is reduced. At sufficient volume this can lower the cost per part, provided the shape is suitable for pressing and the required strength can be reached at the part’s density.
