Metal injection molding (MIM) is now listed among the process routes on our casting, forging and powder metal page. It suits small, complex metal parts needed in volume, particularly shapes that would otherwise take heavy machining.
What we cover
- Route selection – reviewing MIM against machining, investment casting and conventional powder metallurgy at the quotation stage
- MIM parts to drawing – for small parts with complex shapes
- Secondary operations – machining, heat treatment, surface finishing and assembly where required
Why it matters
MIM brings the shape freedom of plastic injection moulding to metal parts. Fine features can be formed directly in the mould, and the same mould can produce a long run of identical parts, so the part cost can fall well below machining at the right volume.
